Earlier this week, the Cleveland Browns and star wide receiver Josh Gordon announced that he will be away from the team to start training camp as he continues to get help in his recovery.

A timetable for a return was not laid out, but Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com is reporting that the expectation is that it won't be a long absence as he works to maintain the personal progress he's made thus far.

This notion falls in line with some of what Gordon put out in his statement, saying that he will be back soon to help the Browns next season. He has continued to stay out of trouble since making his return to the league last season, which is why the timing of this sudden decision brings forth questions about why he chose to go this route now.

Nonetheless, there doesn't appear to be a significant level of concern but rather a strong level of support from the organization and his teammates. The Browns are counting on him to be a major piece of the puzzle next season, as he didn't lose a step in 2017 despite his lengthy ban from the NFL.

Gordon has a chance in front of him to re-establish himself as one of the premier wide receivers in the league that could be among the most productive players at his position. Ultimately, this is a situation that the Browns will continue to monitor as he gets the necessary help to keep him on track in his recovery.
