Baker Mayfield humbly owned up to a past mistake in the form of his 2017 arrest in a recent appearance on “The Herd” with Colin Cowherd. But when Cowherd tried to insinuate that Mayfield was a bad teammate, Mayfield couldn’t help but push back.

It all started when Cowherd brought up how Mayfield looked as if he was running away from his Oklahoma teammates after a touchdown against Ohio State in Columbus. But Mayfield explained what was really going on there－and called out Cowherd for what he was trying to do.

“Our band is over there, our student section’s right there,” Mayfield said. “You pulled the one clip of me running right there to our fans and people that traveled well to that game first of all, and then you didn’t show the rest of the clip of me going to our sideline? . . . You’re acting like I just ran away from everybody.

“I feel like you’re going for the fact that I’m not a team guy, I’m selfish? Is that what you’re shooting at right here or what?” Mayfield said.

Cowherd tried to cover his behind by connecting the celebration to Mayfield’s judgment and decision-making, which Mayfield also shot down in short order. Cowherd finally changed the subject and masked Mayfield whether he had his NFL celebration prepped and ready. Mayfield replied with a sarcastic shot of his own.

“I have nothing, I have nothing,” Mayfield said. “Apparently, I think I just need to run away.”

Mayfield isn’t the type of personality to back down from anyone, and he showed just that with Cowherd. It bodes well for the Browns that even at a young age, their franchise quarterback-in-waiting appears to know how to handle himself just fine.
