The Washington Redskins can be counted out of the playoff race, and teams in this situation usually look forward to the upcoming draft. However, the team is not going to be sacrificing key players in Trent Williams just to try their luck in the coming draft.
Les Carpenter and the media asked the team about their take on rumors surrounding tackle and the Cleveland Browns. What they got from the team was an outright rejection of the claim, saying that letting go of Williams is not in their plans.
Redskins officials emphatically insist that the Trent Williams to Cleveland rumors are not true.

Williams is a quality addition to the offensive line should he be traded off in the coming days. He's been a Pro Bowl fixture since 2012, and the 31-year-old is a key fixture to the Redskins offense, providing solid coverage for the pass and run game. Rarely does an opposing team manage to get past his blocks.

He's currently in the injury reserve as his contract situation with the team ended up with him refusing to show up for training camp. With neither side willing to back down, it seems like the only logical conclusion to the saga is to trade him.
The reason why they denied the rumors may possibly be linked to the team's desire to find a great trade for him. They may want something similar to what the Jacksonville Jaguars got for Jalen Ramsey.
It's also possible that they really want him to stay in Washington and convince him to sign a new contract. After all, their shoddy showing this season–even in their narrow victory against the Miami Dolphins–shows that they need stability in their offensive line. And that is something Williams can provide.
There's no smoke without a fire, and it's possible that John Dorsey does make a move for the disgruntled tackle. However, fans can only wait and see if that happens.
