The Indianapolis Colts are without cornerback Vontae Davis this weekend. Why? Well, it depends on who you ask, as there are differing reports out there as for why the Colts will be without his services.

As a preface, the National Football League franchise is saying (tweeting) one thing, while two reporters are saying another. In a weird twist, the optics would actually look better if the reporters' reports were the factual one.

The Colts tweeted that the decision involving Vontae Davis was not injury related. However, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported that Davis is missing the game because of a groin injury that kept him out the first three games of the regular season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Davis is not being left behind for disciplinary reasons, and said he could be missing the game because of the groin.

Star Colts beat reporter Stephen Holder reported that the coaching staff wants to start Pierre Desir at cornerback, and that the team still maintains that Davis is not injured.

My goodness. Let's press on, but acknowledge why this is a huge deal.

People have been blaming Indy for how it has handled Andrew Luck's injury. The optics of the team currently claiming a player is not hurt, while two respected national reporters say he is, isn't great for the franchise.

This might not seem like a big deal, and at the end of the day it might not be, but if the Colts are “lying” or even just stretching the truth, this could be yet another version of the Luck situation, just on a much smaller scale.
