Dallas Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is expected to meet with NFL officials this week in New York to talk about his potential reinstatement, per ESPN’s Todd Archer.

Gregory, who missed all of last season for his violation of the league’s substance abuse policy, filed his application for reinstatement within the past two weeks.

Included in the application were letters written by teammates Tyrone Crawford, Sean Lee and Jeff Heath in support of Gregory. Owner Jerry Jones has also been complimentary of how Gregory has handled the entire process.

According to the NFL’s substance abuse policy, “all individuals involved in the process will take steps to enable the commissioner to render a decision within 60 days of the receipt of the application.”

If all goes well during the meeting and his appeal, Gregory could potentially be reinstated in time for the Cowboys’ training camp at the end of July.

Gregory was drafted in the second round by the Cowboys in 2015 after he dropped due to off-the-field issues in college. He has played just 14 games since, recording 20 tackles and a single sack during that time. He last appeared in the season finale in 2016 after he was suspended for 14 games due to substance abuse violations.

If reinstated, Gregory would join a deep Cowboys defensive end depth chart made up of DeMarcus Lawrence, Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton, Kony Ealy, Datone Jones, and Charles Tapper.

It remains to be seen whether Gregory would actually be able to help the team in a tangible way after close to two years out. But despite his issues, he does have the talent to be an impactful player if he can just concentrate on playing football.
