Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is facing an important season in his third year in the league. He’ll be eligible for a contract extension next offseason, so after a less than stellar sophomore year, this campaign will be his chance to build his stock back up and give himself a stronger case for a bigger deal during negotiations.
Prescott says he still hasn’t thought too much about the pertinent details of his new deal. Although, he did say he’ll consider the Cowboys’ situation and will look to strike a deal that can help the team’s chances of winning.

I’ve got to take care of myself and take care of my family.
“But at the same time, I want to do what’s best to get good players around me and keep good players around me, because that’s how you win. So if it’s short-term to allow other players to get paid, or long-term because I want to continue to stay a Cowboy and that helps the organization – we’ll get there when that time comes.”
It’s certainly promising for the Cowboys to hear that Prescott appears to be willing to make some personal sacrifices for the good of the team. Although, it must be noted that things are still subject to change and while Prescott may be saying the right things now, he may be singing a different tune later on.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones already remarked earlier this offseason that Prescott is likely to get an “extraordinary” contract. And given the deals other starting quarterbacks around the league have been getting, that’s well within the realm of possibility. But before thinking that far ahead, Prescott will still have to focus on proving this season that he actually is worthy of such a deal.
