The Dallas Cowboys have clinched the NFC East division title after defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon.

It has been a heck of a ride for Dallas, who began the year with a record of 3-5. Dallas then caught fire, rattling off five straight wins, including a pair of victories over the Philadelphia Eagles to improve to 8-5.

The Cowboys had an opportunity to clinch the NFC East last weekend, but they were shut out by the Indianapolis Colts to the tune of 23-0, an experience that the Dallas players said was humbling afterward.

The win over the Buccaneers was not easy, as Dallas hung on by a score of 27-20, but a win is a win, and Dallas is now back in the playoffs.

Last year, the Cowboys had a very disappointing season, winning just nine games in spite of the fact that many felt they could represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.

The high expectations came as a result of Dallas' superb 2016 campaign, in which it won 13 games en route to winning the NFC East. The Cowboys would ultimately fall in the Divisional Round of the playoffs to the Green Bay Packers, but with a young Dak Prescott at quarterback, the future looked bright in Dallas.

This marks the Cowboys' third division title over the last five years. Prior to winning the division in 2014, Dallas missed the playoffs four years in a row between 2010 and 2013.

The Cowboys will conclude their regular season on the road against the New York Giants next Sunday.
