The Dallas Cowboys have been winless through two weeks of preseason football. That said, their lack of success in these exhibition games is not enough for team owner Jerry Jones to continue sending quarterback Dak Prescott to the field until the start of the regular season.
In fact, Jones that Dallas might not play Prescott for the remaining two games on the Cowboys’ preseason schedule during a recent appearance on KRLD-FM (h/t Brandon George of SportsDay). Jones noted his concern about the team’s leaky offensive line in the preseason that does not give the signal-caller the best protection possible, since the Cowboys don't want to risk injury to their big men.
Article Continues Below“When you don't have that full front out there, that starting group, then that might make you a little porous and you wouldn't want to be porous in the preseason with Dak.”
Moreover, Jerry Jones intimated his desire to get backup quarterback Cooper Rush as much exposure as possible under center before the regular season commences.
“Plus, we need to see [backup quarterback Cooper] Rush play behind as good a group as he possibly can as we look at these next two preseason games. It was a little challenging for him out there the other night. He's had a really top camp. We really should get him the most of the work the rest of the way.”
If indeed Dak Prescott is done for the preseason, the next time he’ll be on the field will be on Sep. 9, when Dallas opens its season away from home against the Carolina Panthers.
