Last offseason, Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Tony Romo made the decision to step away from the game by electing to take up a broadcast gig from CBS to over NFL games.
During the recent airing of Romo's “Football Life” documentary that was shown on NFL Network, team owner Jerry Jones voiced that the former Pro Bowler was never going to play for another team. (h/t Patrik Walker of 247 Sports)
“It was never going to be anybody else. I can say that succinctly,” he proclaimed. “He was never going to play any place else.”
Romo had spent all 13 years of his career playing for the Cowboys where he established himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the league during his tenure. However, the latter portion of that was hindered by injuries that contributed to his decision to step away from the game sooner than expected. This has also led Dak Prescott getting the chance to prove that he can step in as the full-time starter in his rookie campaign in 2016 that he never looked back toward handing back over.
Meanwhile, there had been chatter following the 2016 campaign about what the Cowboys would do with Romo still under contract, which had put forth possible rumors that he could play elsewhere such as the Denver Broncos, who were in need of a quarterback during that short period of time. However, this was all quickly dismissed with Romo electing to step away from the game altogether to pursue to his next career away from the game where he has excelled right out of the door in the broadcast booth.
Romo had put together a highly productive career with the Cowboys where he etched himself in team history finishing as the franchise leader with 34,183 passing yards, 248 touchdowns passes, a 97.1 passer rating, a 65.3 completion percentage, and seven 3,000-yard passing campaigns.
