The Dallas Cowboys came away with a 20-15 win over the New York Giants in Week 4's Thursday Night Football matchup. However, the Cowboys' attention has now been turned to star linebacker Micah Parsons.
Parsons suffered a high ankle sprain against the Giants, via Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network. It is not yet known how much time he will miss.
The linebacker was forced to leave the game in the fourth quarter after picking up his injury. Parsons iced his ankle and was seen limping after the game. He underwent an MRI on Friday, which further revealed the extent of his injury.
Since they played on Thursday night, the Cowboys will have a few extra days before their Week 5 matchup. Dallas and Parsons are hoping that's enough time for him to heal up and be back on the field. But dealing with a high ankle sprain, rather than a low, could cause some problems for both parties.
If Parsons was forced to miss any time, it would be a major blow to the Cowboys' defense. Dallas is reeling as is, ranking 25th in total defense – allowing 355.3 yards per game following their Giants clash.
Micah Parsons hasn't necessarily lived up to his superstar status early in the season. He has 14 tackles, six quarterback hits and a sack. Still, he has earned a more than impressive grade of 82.4 from Pro Football Focus. With three Pro Bowls, two All-Pro nominations and a Defensive Rookie of the Year on his belt, no one is doubting Parsons' skill despite the slow start.
However, he needs to be on the gridiron to make a true impact. Dallas will find out if that will be the case against the Pittsburgh Steelers as the week plays out. After taking down the Giants, Parsons and the Cowboys are both keen to start a winning streak. That former's ankle will play a big role on if that goal comes to fruition.
