There were multiple reports made on Monday involving the Dallas Cowboys extending a second contract offer to Dak Prescott in recent weeks. Despite the reports, it has been reported the Dallas has made only one contract offer to Prescott, not two.
The most recent offer to Prescott was extended to the Cowboys quarterback exactly a week ago. Just a few days ago, the financial details of that offer were revealed to the public. Furthermore, the specifics of that contract included $33 million annually and $105 million in guarantees.
With the deadline for teams to use their franchise tags on Thursday, the Cowboys would like to get a long-term deal in place with Prescott before then. However, Dallas has made it known that they will use the tag on Prescott if need be, to prevent him from reaching free agency.
While the $33 million is more than Russell Wilson got on his recent extension, the guarantees are lower than the ones that Carson Wentz and Jared Goff received last offseason. Of course, Prescott was drafted in the same year as both Wentz and Goff.
Given that, even though the reports of a second offer are false, the Cowboys might have to go back to the drawing board if they hope to get a deal done. On the other hand, Prescott appears to be in no rush to sign an extension.
