The Denver Broncos had yet another disappointing season, finishing 5-11 and last in the AFC West.

Many fans were expecting quarterback Drew Lock to take a jump in year two, but he was average to below average. He started 13 games throwing 16 touchdowns and 15 interceptions while only completing 57.3% of his passes. While Lock may not be the long term answer at quarterback, Denver needs to focus on building up the defense and offensive line.

Denver's offensive line ranked 25th in the league last season according to PFF. If they want to get back to the playoffs they will need to improve the offensive line. The defense could also use some work, especially at inside linebacker and cornerback. Denver still possess a solid pass rush but they need to build up the secondary and inside linebacker positions.

The 2021 NFL Draft is Denver's chance to get back to contention.

3. Alabama OT Alex Leatherwood

It's not the most exciting pick, but is much needed for this Denver team. Leatherwood is a very versatile lineman as he can instantly play right guard or left tackle. Leatherwood is an athletic tackle who is quick to get to the second level. He has great hands and footwork which would help him translate to the NFL very easily.

With all of his intangibles it will just be a matter of improving his strength. If he is able improve his strength he will be a franchise left tackle. Whoever the Broncos have at quarterback, it is important to get a franchise tackle and Leatherwood could fill that need.

2. Tulsa LB Zaven Collins

Zaven Collins would be a steal at pick 40 if Denver was able to get him. He is a unique linebacker with his size and great coverage. Collins is 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds and is one of the best coverage linebackers in the draft. He also has the ability to rush the passer and be a glue guy on the defensive side of the ball. His coverage would really help Denver in defending good tight ends.

This is something Denver needs as they have to face Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce and Las Vegas Raiders Tight end Darren Waller twice a year. Collins would instantly compete for the top inside linebacker spot in Denver and could elevate the defense to a whole new level.

1. Florida State CB Asante Samuel Jr.

Denver drastically needs to improve their secondary and the addition of Samuel Jr. would fit nicely. He is a versatile corner who can play on the boundary or in the slot in the NFL. He is a very athletic corner with amazing ball skills. Samuel Jr.'s explosive closing burst allows him to make a play even after getting beat off the line. His great awareness allows him to position himself to break up throws.

At times Samuel Jr. is grabby which can lead to penalties but if he cleans that up he has the tools to become an all pro cornerback in this league. The selection of Samuel would be the start of building a great secondary for the Broncos.
