The Denver Broncos players know all too well how grave their problems at quarterback are and how great an upgrade like Kirk Cousins would be. Star pass rusher Von Miller was unabashed in his attempts to woo Cousins to the Mile High City. Linebacker Brandon Marshall has also expressed his admiration of Cousins.
Now, it’s running back C.J. Anderson’s turn to point out just how much of an impact Cousins can have if he chooses to go to Denver.
“It would be huge having a guy like Kirk. Veteran guy, been through it. It would be huge to come to us, a veteran team,” Anderson said on NFL Network per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. “We know some pieces are going to change, but if we can keep some of the pieces on our offensive end — myself, Emmanuel, DT — our offense can be what we want it to be.”
It was clear for all to see how dire the Broncos’ offensive situation was last season. Anderson did his part as he rushed for a career-high 1,007 yards and added 224 receiving yards. However, their quarterbacks simply let them down. Paxton Lynch proved to be a dud, while Brock Osweiler and Trevor Siemian also squandered multiple opportunities to make the job theirs.
While Cousins has limitations, he would nevertheless be a significant step up from what they had last season. And with Denver’s defense still as good as any in the league, Cousins also won’t be asked to overextend his game on offense, which could be huge for his career.
It will likely take a heavy price to land Cousins, but seeing how desperate the Broncos players are for an established quarterback, they will likely do whatever they can in order to get their man.
