The Denver Broncos have officially entered into a new era with the AFC West franchise infamously acquiring veteran quarterback Joe Flacco in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens. Not only that, but the rest of Denver's offense will be forced to take the next step as well, a group that includes soon-to-be second-year wide receiver, Courtland Sutton.
However, Sutton is ready to take things even further as the up-and-coming pass-catcher believes that he is more than capable of becoming the team's No. 1 wide receiver in 2019-20. With veteran Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders still recovering from a major Achilles tendon injury now could be the time for Sutton to make his mark in Denver.
“I’m excited going into this season knowing that I am going to get to be the No. 1 and I’ll get all of the looks and all of the pressure,’’ Sutton recently said, via Mike Klis of 9 News in Denver.
It is also worth noting that former Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was previously traded away to the Houston Texans midway through last season, paving the way for both Sanders and Sutton to take the reins before the end of the 2018 campaign. Now, with Sanders banged up and Thomas totally out of the picture, Sutton will surely be called upon early and often to begin the 2019 regular season as the aforementioned Flacco becomes more and more familiar with the Denver offense.
Unfortunately for Sutton and company, the Broncos are not expected to serve as legitimate contenders in 2019.
