Denver Broncos tight end Jake Butt suffered his torn ACL last September, and as one would expect, the road back has been long and hard.
Butt had planned on making if back to the field for 2019, but things have apparently not been going too well in training camp, as he has been held out of the Broncos' last four practices due to his knee acting up.
As a result, some have begun to wonder whether or not Butt will ever truly be able to return to playing football, but Denver head coach Vic Fangio still has faith in his young tight end.
“It’s more of what you’d expect,” Fangio said, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic. “He’s hit a little pothole here in his road to recovery, but I don’t think it’s anything too, too serious at this point. He could be out here tomorrow or he could be another day or two.”
Butt's first ACL tear came early on during his collegiate career at Michigan, and he then tore it again during his senior year, which caused his draft stock to take a big hit, as many felt he would be a second-round pick prior to the injury.
The 24-year-old ended up falling to the fifth round, where the Broncos scooped him up with the 145th overall pick in 2017.
He would proceed to miss his entire rookie campaign while he recovered and finally made his NFL debut this past year, when he played in three games and logged eight catches for 85 yards before tearing his ACL again.
