For the first time in his NFL career, Jamaal Charles is set to play in a season donning a uniform other than the Kansas City Chiefs.

Charles' tenure in Kansas City may have come to close due to health concerns, but Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph came away quite impressed by the play of the former Pro Bowl running back in his first preseason action, according to Pro Football Talk.

“Jamaal is Jamaal,” Broncos coach Vance Joseph said in halftime quotes distributed by the team. “He looked explosive.”

In the Broncos' third preseason tilt on Saturday against the Green Bay Packers, Charles was effective running ball picking up 27 yards on four rush attempts. This included a 12-yard run that saw him show flashes of what he was prior to his second ACL tear as he juked a couple of defenders with a hard cut to the outside.

Charles has an opportunity to showcase that he still has plenty left in the tank in his first campaign in Denver. He will likely start out splitting carries with starter C.J. Anderson, which he could quickly etch out more playing time if he's able to display that he's any essence of player he once was before the knee injury.

The 30-year-old has quite an impressive track record in his first nine seasons in the league with the Chiefs where he topped 1,000 rushing yards five times while holding an NFL-best career mark of 5.5 yards per carry.
