Denver Broncos star Von Miller knows exactly what it's like being the highest paid defensive player in the league and he has held that title for the last after signing a six-year, $114 million contract in 2016.
Miller knows how the NFL works and it probably won't be long before he isn't the highest paid defensive player. Khalil Mack and Aaron Donald are both holding out hoping to get the next payday and Miller thinks both guys deserve that.
“As far as both those guys holding out, they deserve big contracts,’’ Miller said, via Mike Klis of Denver’s 9News. “It’s an unfortunate situation, both of those guys have won Defensive Player of the Year. Both of those guys are the best players on both of their teams.
“In the National Football League, if you come in and produce, you get a contract. Both of those guys have gone above and beyond the call their team has demanded from those guys. Both of those guys deserve to be the highest-paid defensive player.’’
Since Miller signed his contract two years ago 17 quarterbacks have been paid more money than what he signed for but so far no defensive players have passed him up.
Some players might get upset when players start to make more money than what they signed for although Von Miller doesn't mind he is just happy to be locked up to the long-term deal.
“I haven’t really paid any attention to it,’’ Miller said. “When you sign a contract like that two years ago, it really eases the nerves where you can just go out there and play football.’’
