The Detroit Lions will be shorthanded as they attempt to do anything they can to slow down Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. According to Ian Rapoport, cornerback Darius Slay will be inactive versus the Chiefs.

The Lions cornerback suffered a hamstring injury in Week 3 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Slay was limited in practice all week but his injury seems to be serious enough to prevent him from playing in Week 4.

Losing Slay will be a huge blow for a Detroit defense that has to be at their best to do something that no one has been able to do this season: slow down the Chiefs high-flying offense.

Since entering the NFL in 2013, Slay has been one of the best cornerbacks in the league. Over the past seven seasons, the talented cornerback has accumulated 18 interceptions, 94 pass deflections, and 308 tackles.

This week, Matt Patricia was hoping to have his stalwart cornerback in his secondary for Sunday. That is because the Lions will have to cover the likes of Sammy Watkins, Demarcus Robinson, and Mecole Hardman at wide receiver.

With Slay being on the sideline in street clothes, expect to see more of Mike Ford and Justin Coleman in Detroit's secondary. Ford and Coleman have combined for just six starts for the Lions since 2018.

Due to Slay not being active, Detroit is going to need their front seven to apply some pressure on Mahomes. If they can't, the Lions could be in for a long day in front of their home fans.
