The Detroit Lions were forced to make yet another change under center with the injury to quarterback Jeff Driskel heading into their Thanksgiving Day matchup with the Chicago Bears. Fortunately, it did not take quarterback David Blough very long to make his presence felt.

Blough's first career completion was a 75-yard touchdown to wide receiver Kenny Golladay. According to ESPN Stats & Info., it is the second-longest touchdown by a quarterback on their first completed pass:

David Blough's 75-yard TD is the 2nd-longest TD by a QB on his first career completion since the 1970 merger.

Only Neil O'Donnell (89 yards in 1991) threw a longer TD for his first completion.

The touchdown was the result of a broken play by the defense. Regardless, it is still an encouraging sign to see that Blough was able to take advantage in the most ideal fashion possible.

It has been quite the turn of events for Blough. The former undrafted free agent out of Purdue had spent the entire 2019 NFL season on the practice squad until injuries to quarterback Matthew Stafford and Driskel forced Detroit to promote him. Fortunately, the rookie has had no problem finding his rhythm early on despite facing a talented Chicago defense.

While the loss of Stafford dealt a crushing blow to the offense entering the final stretch of the year, the Lions can take solace in the fact that the backups have done a serviceable job in his absence. It will be interesting to see if Blough can also get a win in his first career start as well.
