The Detroit Lions acquired receiver Denzel Mims from the New York Jets Wednesday. Lions coach Dan Campbell was complimentary of Mims' skill set Sunday.
“He's a guy that has tools,” Campbell said, via Pro Football Talk. “He's a big receiver and he has speed. He has length and kind of relative of looking at what do you want to work with, this guy has the ability and let's see if we can do something.”
Mims, who has 42 receptions for 676 yards in his three-year NFL career, has underwhelmed according to expectations. He was selected by the Jets with the No. 59 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and was a first-team All-Big-12 player at Baylor in 2019.
Detroit hopes it can get more out of Mims. The Lions had a top-five offense last year and could use his 6-foot-3, 207-pound frame to good use, Campbell said.

Mims is looking to contribute right away for Detroit. The Lions have good depth at his position, but he could rotate in the two-deep since Jameson Williams is serving a six-game suspension and Marvin Jones, who signed a one-year deal with Detroit in April, is on the non-football injury list, Pro Football Talk reported.
The Lions improved in 2022 and finished 9-8, good for second in the NFC North, after they were 3-13-1 in Campbell's first season in 2021. Detroit is looking to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016.
