Detroit Lions defensive lineman Damon Harrison is seeking a new deal, but the Lions are not focused on that right now, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com:
“My priority right now is the draft,” said Lions general manager Bob Quinn. “We got another month or so before the draft is here, so that is something that we’ll probably talk about in May or June.”
The Lions acquired Harrison in a trade with the New York Giants midway through this past season.
Harrison, who is set to make $6.75 million this coming year and $9 million in 2020, played in 10 games with Detroit in 2018, finishing with 50 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. On the year overall, he registered 81 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a couple of forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
The 30-year-old, who played his collegiate football at William Penn, went undrafted but landed with the New York Jets in 2012. He appeared in just five contests during his rookie campaign, failing to log a statistic.
Then, the following year, Harrison started all 16 games for the Jets, totaling 66 tackles and a sack.
He went on to spend the first four years of his career with the Jets before moving over to the Giants in 2016. Harrison had the best year of his career that season, racking up 86 tackles, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble en route to a Pro Bowl appearance and a first-team All-Pro selection.
The Lions are coming off a 2018 campaign in which they won just six games and missed the playoffs.
