Jared Goff finds himself on a new team for the 2021 NFL season after getting traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Detroit Lions. Goff's play has taken a step back since leading the Rams to the Super Bowl in the 2018 season, and he has faced plenty of criticism for it. Furthermore, not many people are expecting much from the Lions this season under eccentric first-year head coach Dan Campbell.

Goff addressed the doubters on Monday. The new Lions quarterback claims he doesn't listen to that “outside chatter,” but he does understand the noise:

Detroit went 5-11 last season and hasn't been to the playoffs since the 2016 season. In fact, the franchise hasn't won a playoff game since the 1991 season. Given this and all the turnover in the organization, it's no surprise the Lions aren't being taken seriously in the NFC North.

Despite all these factors, Goff has high expectations for his new team. He thinks Detroit can make a surprise run to the playoffs.

Via Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official website:

“I don't know what the stat is, but every year there's new teams in the playoffs. Every year there are teams that were in the playoffs last year that aren't. Why not us? Why can't we be that one that wasn't in last year that is this year?

“Again, it starts one week at a time. Internally, our expectations are as high as anyone else.”

We'll see if Jared Goff and the Lions can shut the haters up in 2020.
