Despite a red hot quarterback under center in Matthew Stafford, the Detroit Lions just can't seem to get out of their own way this season. As a result of the team producing only three wins thus far into the 2019-20 regular season, Lions head coach Matt Patricia continues to answer questions regarding both the play on the field and the decisions being made under his direction.
Most recently, Patricia's Lions came up short in the final seconds of regulation on Sunday afternoon against the Oakland Raiders. However, the Lions narrow defeat could have possibly been avoided if not for a questionable play call to end the game, which ultimately allowed the Raiders to walk away with a 31-24 victory.
On fourth down and goal to go from inside the five-yard line, the Lions opted to throw a jump ball to backup tight end Logan Thomas, which was not converted as Raiders safety Karl Joseph made a pretty solid play on the ball to cause an incompletion. Despite the questionable play call and personnel package, Patricia still managed to defend himself and the decision on fourth and goal during his postgame press conference.

Currently sitting at a pedestrian 3-4-1 on the season as it stands today, the middling Lions are not dead just yet as Detroit has strung togethers some impressive performances along the way. Even so, the Lions rarely put together well-rounded efforts, which has led to the team's middle-of-the-pack record in a tough NFC North division, a group that is being led by the two-loss Green Bay Packers.
