Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman Jonathan Martin put a scare into a lot of people last week when he posted a threatening image to Instagram. But in light of recent events, proper precautions were taken, and he was taken into custody by the police.
According to Omar Kelly of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, he has since checked into a mental health facility. It is unclear if he checked in on his own accord or if it was an involuntary commitment.

Considering the post that started this whole mess, it doesn’t matter. The important thing is Martin is getting help and not in a place where he can't hurt anyone.
Article Continues BelowThe post in question was a picture of a rifle and a handful of shotgun shells with the caption: “When you’re a bully victim and a coward, your options are suicide or revenge.” If that wasn’t creepy enough, he tagged four people including two players accused of bullying him when he was with the Dolphins, Richie Incognito, and Mike Pouncey.
He also added #MiamiDolphins and #HardvardWestlake, his old team and his old high school. The school shut down on Friday in response to the apparent threat.
Whether or not he intended on doing anything, we will never know for sure. But when he was arrested on Friday, he did have a gun in his possession. Officers also told TMZ Sports that Martin had recently purchased two weapons.
It’s good that we don’t have to find out what he intended, but it is even better that he is now in a place where he can get the help he appears to need desperately.
