The Miami Dolphins wasted little time last week in making a decision on star wide receiver Jarvis Landry's contract situation by placing the franchise tag on him on the first day it was eligible. This has kept in place one of their most dynamic player on the offensive side of the ball.
However, this hasn't exactly brought any clarity to what the team plans on working out with him now that is under a deal for at least the 2018 NFL season. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Dolphins are lined up to meet with Landry's agent to discuss the 25-year-old long-term future with the franchise.

There has been persistent chatter over the last several days that the Dolphins are planning to use the franchise tag as a way of levying a trade with another team that is interested in acquiring Landry's services. This could quickly lead to a few teams jumping in the mix to land the two-time Pro Bowler such as the Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Ravens.

Landry has developed into one of the top receivers in the league over his first four years in the league. He is coming off a career-best campaign where he posted a career-high 112 receptions, 987 receiving yards, and a career-best nine touchdowns. He also set a couple of franchise records with the most catches in a single season while being the first Dolphins player to record at least 100 catches in multiple seasons.
What may have led to the franchise going this route could have been Landry's previous comments that he doesn’t plan on taking any hometown discount. The Dolphins are currently not in a position to work out lucrative deals as the team is expected to part ways with a few key players to even get themselves under the salary cap threshold.
With both sides set to meet in the coming days, it should give a better sense of direction of what Landry's future in Miami holds.
