Earlier this week, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady made a playful plea to his former teammate and now Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long to take it easy on him this Sunday in Super Bowl LII.
Long has since heard of Brady’s request, but unfortunately for the five-time Super Bowl champion signal-caller, the Eagles’ veteran said that he has no interest in playing mind games with Brady, per Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk.
“You can’t take it easy on the GOAT,” Long said. “He’s a hell of a dude and a hell of a player. He’s trying to play a mind game with me. It’s that Jedi Mind Trick. You can’t take it easy on him. He knows that. He’s not going to take it easy on us. It’s going to be a great game.”
Chris Long has been around the league for quite some time now. Taken in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft by the St. Louis Rams, Long is one of those hardened veterans of the game that will have zero problems forgetting about off-the-field friendship and anything sentimental if it would help his team win games. Long would probably tackle his grandmother if she suited up for the Patriots this Sunday.
Long and Tom Brady were teammates for one season in New England, winning a Super Bowl together last year, when the Patriots had a memorable come-from-behind win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI.
So far in his career, Long has 309 combined tackles, 13 forced fumbles, and 63.5 sacks. He has zero sacks in five postseason games, but will Brady be his first victim in the playoffs? Stay tuned.
