The Philadelphia Eagles have embraced their underdog status since the playoffs started. However, they took it to a whole new level by literally becoming the face of underdogs everywhere.
Needless to say, things have not changed now that they have earned a trip to Super Bowl LII. According to ESPN's David Purdum, the Eagles are now the biggest underdogs in the Super Bowl since the Arizona Cardinals in 2009:
The Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas on Sunday installed the Eagles as 5.5-point underdogs to the New England Patriots for Super Bowl LII.
Other sportsbooks went higher. The Wynn opened at New England minus-6.5, and Caesars Palace and Station Casinos each made the Patriots minus-6.
William Hill's Nevada book went a touch lower, with New England opening as a 5-point favorite. The Super Bowl over/under was set at 47.5.
It is a bit surprising to see Philadelphia still being massively overlooked. The Eagles became the first-ever No. 1 seed to be an underdog in the divisional round against the Atlanta Falcons but came out on top.

Even their biggest question mark in quarterback Nick Foles was nothing short of spectacular after throwing for 352 yards and three touchdowns on the day.
However, it seems the Patriots' hard-fought win over the Jacksonville Jaguars was enough to cement their status as the clear-cut favorite to win Super Bowl LII. When comparing the body of work between these two teams, it is easy to see why.
Not only are the Pats the reigning Super Bowl champs, but this big stage has become all too familiar for the likes of head coach Bill Belichick and star quarterback Tom Brady. Regardless, Philadelphia has doubled down on their underdog status and likely would not want to have it any other way at this point.
