The Atlanta Falcons are already banged up as is, but the National Football League franchise had no other choice but to place cornerback Desmond Trufant in the concussion protocol.

At that position alone, the Falcons have already witnessed Brian Poole go down with a back injury.

Atlanta head coach Dan Quinn calls Poole “day to day.”

“As you know, we had two corners go down in Poole and Tru during the game,” Quinn said, via D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “I thought a lot of [pride] was shown by the [defensive backs] answering when they had to, specifically Ricardo Allen who was in a new spot.”

This is obviously a big blow for a defense that can ill-afford any setbacks at this point in the season. While Desmond Trufant might not be known as a shutdown corner in the truest sense of the term, he's far better than what is behind him on the depth chart.

That being said, simply because the medical staff has placed him in the concussion protocol doesn't mean he will miss a substantial amount of time.

Heck, he might not miss any time at all. It depends on how long it takes before he passes the needed tests to get back on the field. There hasn't been, at least dating back a few years now, a set frame of time in regard to how long a player misses with a brain injury.

Nevertheless, Atlanta is certainly hoping that he gets healthy as quickly as possible.
