The Green Bay Packers were just one game away from appearing in Super Bowl 54. By losing in the NFC Championship Game, the Packers will possess the 30th overall selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Despite the pick being near the end of the first round, the Packers have a countless number of options to choose from. Some fans in Green Bay would love to see their beloved team add a dynamic wide receiver in free agency or through the draft.

Other fans are fond of the idea of bolstering the defense a bit more by drafting a linebacker. With that in mind, Green Bay will have a couple of months to decipher what would be best for the organization. All of that being said, here are three reasons why the Packers must take a linebacker in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft.

3. The Packers desperately need help at linebacker

Simply put, one of the Packers' biggest needs of the offseason is at linebacker. Even if Blake Martinez were to stay, Green Bay would still need to address the position.

This year's draft is littered with talented wide receiver prospects—another position the Packers need to target. Given the depth of the incoming receiver class, Green Bay can afford to wait until the second or third round to select a wideout.

On the other hand, linebacker is a pressing need for the Packers. When Green Bay is on the clock with the 30th overall pick, they should be announcing the name of a linebacker.

2. Green Bay needs to find Martinez's replacement

In the next month or so, the Packers will have to make a decision on whether or not to re-sign Martinez. The former Stanford product has spent four seasons with Green Bay and it's likely he's on his way out.

Given the current inside linebacker market, Martinez could command a hefty contract in free agency. As a result, the Packers should choose to part ways with him and find his replacement in the draft.

Near the end of the first round, the Packers won't have much to choose from at linebacker. However, if one of the top linebacker prospects falls to them, there's no way they can pass up on the opportunity.

1. The Packers need a versatile linebacker

While Martinez was a tackling machine for the Packers over the past three seasons, he isn't a multi-talented linebacker. In today's NFL, it is vital for a linebacker to be capable of playing in coverage.

For Martinez, he's shown that he doesn't excel in coverage due to his lack of athleticism. Luckily for the Packers, there are a couple of versatile linebackers that could be available when they make their choice with the 30th overall pick.

Among the possible candidates, Patrick Queen and Kenneth Murray could fall to the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft. Both Queen and Murray were versatile linebackers in college that could develop into cornerstone players for Green Bay.
