The Ringer's Bill Simmons has entered the chat regarding comparisons of the Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons trade to the Green Bay Packers to the Dallas Mavericks' Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers blockbuster swap. For the first time since the move, Parsons was seen on the Packers' practice field as the anticipation for his Green Bay debut builds. Simmons explained why this move pales in comparison to the Mavericks' trade for Anthony Davis.
Simmons discussed why the Doncic trade was more shocking than the Cowboys trading Parsons, per his Bill Simmons podcast.
“The one thing that I got to throw my body in front of was people comparing this to the Luka Doncic trade. This was not the Luka Doncic trade,” Simmons said. “In basketball, you basically need three guys to compete for a title. And one of those three guys, if it's one of the 10 best guys in the league, you always have a chance. Football really, it's the quarterback is the only untouchable position.
“In any other position, you could talk yourself into a scenario where you could win that.”
For Simmons, trading a player such of Doncic's caliber is more comprable to the Kansas City Chiefs trading quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“There was some stuff about how Von Miller was the last elite pass rusher to win a Super Bowl. That was 2015. So, if you're building your team around, and this is like, you know, the most important guy on your team, the track record is a little harder to win the Super Bowl,” Simmons added. “You need the quarterback. In the Luka case, Luka is the quarterback. That's like trading Mahomes or trading Joe Burrow or whoever. So, I can't compare it to that.”
