The Green Bay Packers have signed rookie running back Dexter Williams to his rookie contract, according to the team's official website.

Williams was drafted in the sixth round by the Packers and should be able to compete this summer for one of the teams running back spots.

Last season with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Williams rushed for 955 yards and 12 touchdowns on 158 carries. Those stats might not be eye-popping, but he only played in nine games because of suspension. Williams was suspended for the first four games of the season but did a great job of finishing his career strong.

After being drafted by the Packers, Williams addressed his suspension and said it's behind him now and he is ready to prove he can rise above that.

“I love my teammates and my family,” Williams said after being selected by the Green Bay Packers via 247 Sports. “Just for me to let them and my mom down, it hurt me a lot. I just realized it was time to really figure out who Dexter Williams is and correct all my mistakes while I can and also make a difference and show people that I can change and do everything they ask of me. That was just a moment in my life where it was time to show maturity.”

The Packers already have Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams on the roster and in the running back room, but as long as Williams can stay out of trouble and stay healthy, he should play a role with the Packers this upcoming season.
