The Green Bay Packers' overhaul of the safety position continues. According to ESPN's Rob Demovsky, the team has elected against placing a tender on three-year pro Kentrell Brice, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Packers did not tender S Kentrell Brice, a source said. The restricted free agent will now become a free agent and is expected to sign elsewhere.

Green Bay had until 4:00 p.m. EST to put a tender on Brice, but apparently deemed doing so not worth the financial penalty given his status as an undrafted free agent. If he signed elsewhere after being tendered, the Packers' compensation would not have been of high value.
Article Continues BelowBrice started a career-high 10 games and appeared in 14 games for Green Bay last season while battling several nagging injuries. He finished the season with 50 tackles, one tackle for loss, one sack, two passes defensed, and no interceptions. Those subpar numbers, unfortunately for Brice, fail to accurately convey just how damaging he was to the Packers' defense in 2018. Pro Football Focus rated Brice the league's 87th-best of the 93 safeties who logged at least 300 snaps last season.
At 5-foot-11 and 200 pounds, Brice is somewhat undersized for a safety, and hasn't compensated by showing high-level understanding or skills in coverage. He seems most likely to land with a team in need of depth at safety rather than re-emerging as a starter somewhere outside of Green Bay.
The Packers have been one of the most active teams in the opening days of free agency. In hopes of shoring up a defense that finished 22nd in points per game last season, the team has brought in a trio of talented, expensive defenders: pass-rusher Za'Darius Smith, safety Adrian Amos, and edge defender Preston Smith.
