New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels made it clear last offseason that he was not going anywhere. However, it appears bettors are convinced the Green Bay Packers can entice him this offseason.
The Packers were among the notable teams to part ways with their head coach. According to BetOnline.ag, McDaniels has emerged as the heavy favorite to sign with Green Bay:
Josh McDaniels -150
Matt LaFleur +350
Jim Caldwell +750
Dan Campbell +750
Adam Gase +1200
Jim Harbaugh +5000
The prospect of McDaniels becoming the next head coach of the Packers is certainly understandable. There has been plenty of speculation regarding what Green Bay may be looking for in their new coach. It is safe to assume that their decision will largely be predicated on which option pairs best with quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
There are very few candidates in this league that are qualified to keep a player of Rodgers' caliber in check. McDaniels very well could be one of them. He is a product of Bill Belichick's coaching tree which has helped a number of his other fellow peers land head coaching jobs in recent years, such as Bill O'Brien and Matt Patricia.
More importantly, McDaniels has spent the majority of his career working with quarterback Tom Brady. His experience with Brady will undoubtedly pay huge dividends when it comes to working out an offensive game plan with Rodgers.
Of course, this all mere speculation at this point. McDaniels made headlines last offseason when he reneged on his commitment to become the next head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. It is safe to say that whatever was agreed upon with New England at the time was long-standing.
