There was a legitimate question as to whether Aaron Rodgers would be back with the Green Bay Packers in 2022. Rodgers even mulled retirement at 38 years old despite coming off back-to-back MVP seasons. But he ultimately decided to return on a mammoth new contract, though one has to wonder just how many years he has left in him.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed this on Tuesday:

It's obvious Rodgers still has it, and he could probably pull a Tom Brady and play into his mid-40s given good health. Whether Rodgers actually wants to do that is anybody's guess. Brady is truly one of a kind, and Rodgers might not want to subject himself to the NFL grind for another half-decade or longer, even if he remains a high-level quarterback.

Rodgers' new contract is basically a three-year, $150 million pact that features voidable years in 2025 and 2026. Based on the language of the contract, there's a good chance the quarterback stays with the Packers for at least two more seasons, because the cap hit for playing just one more season with the franchise would be catastrophic.

So, at least for right now, the assumption is Rodgers is playing at least two more seasons. Perhaps he plays much longer than that. Of course, we can't rule out the quarterback deciding to move on after the 2022 season, even if it screws Green Bay. Rodgers marches to the beat of his own drum and will do whatever he wants.

Matt LaFleur is certainly prepared for anything.
