The Houston Texans received a blow to their wide receiver corps in their preseason matchup with the Green Bay Packers on Thursday. Second-year Keke Coutee went down after being tackled in the second quarter. The receiver grabbed his lower leg after the injury before the Texans staff carted off the field.

Earlier in the game, Coutee caught a nine-yard pass and muffed a punt return; in turn, giving the ball to the Packers for a touchdown.

Coutee has enjoyed a healthy offseason after an injury-marred rookie season. The former Texas Tech Red Raider played six regular seasons his rookie year, suffering through a lingering hamstring issue.

Coutee is the Texans' starting slot receiver alongside DeAndre Hopkins and Will Fuller. Though his rookie year was short, he showed immense potential, tallying two 109+ yard games against the rival Indianapolis Colts (including playoffs). In the regular season, he recorded 28 receptions for 287 yards and a touchdown.

Earlier in training camp, Coutee was making waves. His teammates Deshaun Watson and DeAndre Hopkins praised him this week after a joint practice with the Packers, as they said, via Texans Wire,

“I think Keke is one of the most improved players on this offense, just from seeing his development from going through injuries and all,” said Hopkins.

“I agree Keke has come a long way. — He’s came into this camp and been able to read defenses. Exactly what the offense has been wanting him to do, and he’s been a factor for sure,” said Watson.

The young Coutee has seen his stock rise in the offseason; hopefully, the injury isn't too serious.
