Tyrann Mathieu was recruited by J.J. Watt to join the Houston Texans shortly after his release from the Arizona Cardinals, and he signed. And now, it’s the Honey Badger’s turn to recruit for his new team as he’s sounded out to the recently-cut Dez Bryant to join him in Houston.

Bryant was just cut by the Dallas Cowboys on Friday after a meeting with owner Jerry Jones. The former All-Pro wideout has not quite been the same since going three-straight years with at least 1,200 receiving yards and 12 receiving touchdowns. He has not broken 1,000 receiving yards in each of his last three years.

However, that doesn’t appear to be an issue with Mathieu, who believes Bryant still has something to offer the Texans.

Houston already has a No. 1-caliber wideout in DeAndre Hopkins, who just had a terrific year in 2017 as he had 96 catches for 1,378 receiving yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns. But they could desperately use a more reliable No. 2 option playing opposite him. Former first-round pick Will Fuller was a distant second to Hopkins as he finished with just 28 catches for 423 yards.

Bryant may no longer be the elite wideout that he once was, but he'd be a perfectly fine No. 2 option for any team if he's willing to accept that sort of role.

Bryant reportedly hinted after getting cut that he may be interested in signing with an NFC East rival to face the Cowboys twice this upcoming season. But if he can’t work out a deal with the Eagles, Giants, or Redskins, perhaps staying in Texas to team up with the Honey Badger would be an appealing option for Bryant.
