The New York Jets and Jacksonville Jaguars seemed to be duking it out for the first overall pick in 2020, but the Jets ended up winning two games in the final month of the season, and the Jaguars now hold the top overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

The Jets have been rumored to be candidates in a potential deal for Deshaun Watson, and if true, the Jets fan base would erupt after years and years of heartbreak and suffering. Either way, the Jets will more than likely have a new quarterback, and they also have a brand new head coach in Robert Saleh after the Adam Gase experiment ended with a forgetful few years.

The Jets have the second overall pick for now, but they need help in basically every position group on the team. Ageless wonder Frank Gore defied odds again and led the Jets in rushing with 663 yards, which is 400 more than anybody else on the roster.

Jamison Crowder led the receiving corps with 699 yards in only 12 games played, and rookie Denzel Mims only played in nine games due to injury. Running back Le'Veon Bell was sent away after being unhappy with the organization, and the Jets desperately need playmakers on both sides of the ball going forward.

They have money to spend and assets to use, and of course, adding a top-5 quarterback in Watson would certainly help new coach Saleh try to make this team competitive.

As for the Jaguars, they have a lot of issues as well. Urban Meyer was brought in as head coach, and the Meyer experiment could end extremely well or could end in total regret, but the Jaguars are giving him a shot.

James Robinson was one of the most surprising rookies in the entire NFL, and the lone bright spot on this Jaguars team as he rushed for over 1,000 yards and merited some Rookie of the Year consideration.

DJ Chark and Keelan Cole are solid receivers, and rookie Laviska Shenault will only improve especially with a new regime in place.

The best part for the Jaguars? The assumed selection of Clemson star Trevor Lawrence number one overall and the fact that they have cap space galore to work with in free agency.

With Lawrence as one of the most highly touted prospects in years, the Jaguars should be competitive sooner rather than later and they have the ability to sign basically whoever they want in the upcoming free agent extravaganza.

Decision: Jaguars

The quarterback situation is questionable in New York, and if Watson doesn't come they have to decide between Sam Darnold, Justin Fields, and Zach Wilson. The Jets lack playmakers on both sides, and as of now, they have a lot of work to do to compete, especially in the AFC East with the New England Patriots, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills.

The Jaguars are getting, well at least they should, a generational type talent in Lawrence, and if Robinson can continue to succeed in the backfield, the sky is the limit for Meyer and company in Florida.

Both these teams were bad in 2020, but better days ahead for these franchises sooner rather than later.
