The Jacksonville Jaguars had to make some big decisions this offseason to try and keep their star-studded roster intact for the 2018 NFL season. Among them was their choice to decline a fifth-year option on defensive end Dante Fowler.

Fortunately, Fowler is not letting the decision get to him. According to John Reid of the Florida Times-Union, he is using as added motivation to have the best season of his career:

“I know how good of a player I am,” Fowler said. “I know I'm one of the best players in this league. When I go out there, I'm going to make the best of my opportunities every time. I'm working hard to have the best season of my career.”

Needless to say, Fowler certainly has high expectations for himself next season. His career got off to a late start after a torn ACL prematurely ended his rookie campaign in the offseason. However, he has since bounced back strong and enjoyed a career-year in 2017. Unfortunately, Fowler's production is hardly indicative of his draft status.

The former third overall pick registered 21 tackles, 8.0 sacks, and two forced fumbles last season. Furthermore, his solid outing was largely overshadowed by his All-Pro peers on defense which has forced Jacksonville to put his future with the team on hold.

However, he has managed to display his durability after appearing in 32 games over the past two seasons. That said, it seems Fowler understands that he must establish himself as a premier pass-rusher if he hopes to get a big payday after this season.
