The Jacksonville Jaguars will be without their starting quarterback in Gardner Minshew as they go head-to-head against the Houston Texans in Week 9 action, as per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Both teams are currently having their bye in Week 8 of the season.

His impending absence was due to multiple fractures and a strained ligament in his right thumb. Despite the injury, he still participated in their most recent game against the LA Chargers where Gardner Minshew produced 173 passing records on a 14/27 passing clip for two passing touchdowns. It was a performance to forget for the sophomore as he failed to get his teammates going. On top of that, the game was considered to be a make-or-break for Minshew.

The Chargers' defense also haunted the quarterback as he was sacked five times all throughout the contest. On the other end of the field, the Jags' offense was evidently not in sync as they failed to match the Chargers' scoring output en route to a 39-29 loss. The defeat dropped them back to a 1-6 record for the cellar-dwelling spot in the AFC South. The Texans hold a similar record but a win over a divisional rival puts them ahead to nab the third spot in the same division.

Veteran playmaker Mike Glennon and rookie gunslinger Jake Luton are both expected to be in the running for the starting spot against the Texans. It remains to be a toss-up between the two as to who will be slotted in under center with no clear individual being named as of the moment.

The Week 9 encounter between the Jaguars and Texans will prove to be an exciting matchup as both teams are raring to get their second win of the season.
