Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette is not expected to play in his team's game against the Houston Texans on Sunday as a result of foot and ankle issues, according to the Jaguars' injury report.
Fournette is currently listed as doubtful.
It seems like a fitting end to what has been a disastrous season for the second-year halfback, as Fournette has rushed for just 439 yards and five touchdowns on the year, averaging a meager 3.3 yards per carry.
The 23-year-old, who played his collegiate football at LSU, was originally selected by the Jaguars with the fourth overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft.
He had an impressive rookie campaign, racking up 1,040 yards and nine scores. While he only averaged 3.9 yards per attempt, his ability to wear down defenses with his bulk was paramount. In addition to his rushing totals, he also hauled in 36 receptions for 302 yards while reaching the end zone once.
This year has been an entirely different story, as Fournette himself admitted that he was out of shape a couple of weeks ago after receiving just one carry in the second half of a loss to the Washington Redskins.
Of course, Leonard Fournette is far from Jacksonville's only issue this season.
A year after winning the AFC South and making it all the way to the AFC Championship Game, the Jaguars have gone just 4-11 this season and appear to have a rather critical need at quarterback heading into the offseason. Blake Bortles got the job done for the Jags last year, but in 2018, it was a different story.
Much like a lot of other things on the Jaguars this year.
