Duval, meet your new hero. The Jacksonville Jaguars have announced that they are hiring former Super Bowl winning coach Doug Pederson to their head coaching position. The move comes after the disaster that was Urban Meyer's tenure, where dysfunction and losing defined the team.
Regarding this signing, 2021 first overall pick Trevor Lawrence is excited to have Pederson in the fold. In a tweet, the Jaguars quarterback expressed his excitement over the signing.
Let’s get to work💪🏼 – Welcome to #DUUUVAL ! Great days ahead. https://t.co/1Mburp2ZCp

Pederson enters a tumultuous time for the Jaguars. Fresh off an embarrassing season filled with drama and coaching failures, the franchise is looking for someone to right the ship. After turning down Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, the Jags decided to select the ex-Philadelphia Eagles coach to lead them.
Jacksonville is also hoping that Doug Pederson can unlock Trevor Lawrence's full potential. The quarterback was hailed as one of the best prospects in last year's draft, but he severely underperformed in his rookie season. Much has been made whether Lawrence's horrible rookie season was due to Meyer's influence, but the front office is hoping a new coach can be the spark Lawrence needs.
Aside from Lawrence, the Jaguars have plenty of weapons at their disposal. James Robinson and Travis Etienne are talented running backs that were severely misused under Meyer. The defense has Josh Allen and Myles Jack anchoring them. Given a great coach and some solid signings and draft picks, there's reason to believe that Jacksonville has what it takes to be a good team.
The Jaguars have not been able to find much success after the famed “Sacksonville” roster was decimated a few years ago. They are hoping the Pederson-Lawrence pairing will be the start to their long-term success.
