The Kansas City Chiefs made some major changes this offseason after handing the reins of the offense over to quarterback Patrick Mahomes. It seems he is already doing what he can to make sure Kansas City stays in the playoff picture this year.

The young quarterback has done a solid job of impressing coaches and teammates so far this offseason. According to James Palmer of nfl.com, wide receiver Chris Conley says he has even organized workout sessions outside of practice:

“He's running it pretty close to textbook of how the playbook says to run it,” wide receiver Chris Conley told me. “But he's got his little flavor on it. But also at the same time he's asking us questions while we're doing things. He knows how he wants routes run, but then it's not to the point where he won't ask your opinion and what your thoughts are. It's kind of easy for you to go up to him too and say, ‘I know this is what you're trying to get done, but this is what we're seeing.'

“So there is a lot of open dialogue right now between us and him, but also at the same time, I don't think he's afraid enough to say, ‘This is how I want it,' which is good. Sometimes young guys will be passive, but he's not at all.”

It is encouraging to see that Mahomes is taking such initiative in his first offseason as the starting quarterback. Building a rapport with receivers is a vital part of the process when developing the passing game. It goes without saying that some of the best quarterbacks in the league have at least one or two guys that they are on the same page with at all times.

Mahomes will need every advantage he can get if he is going to prove himself as a viable replacement for former Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith. Fortunately, he will have plenty of help from his explosive receiving corps.

Mahomes' arsenal boasts plenty of firepower between Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and offseason addition Sammy Watkins. It is clear that Conley is also doing his part to build chemistry with his new quarterback. Meanwhile, running back Kareem Hunt has also established himself as a legitimate receiving threat out of the backfield.
