It has been nearly two weeks since the Oakland Raiders pulled off the surprising trade to move All-Pro defensive end Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a plethora of draft picks including a pair of first-round selections. Denver Broncos star outside linebacker Von Miller has voiced that he was “shocked” by the Raiders deciding to pull the trigger on a deal to ship off Mack as he believed he was an untradeable player, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic.

The opinion that Miller has expressed about the situation is one that is shared by much of the league as Mack has developed himself as one of the top defensive players in the NFL over his first four years. This saw him earn three Pro Bowl selections, two First-Team All-Pro nods, and an NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. He is also coming off yet another impressive campaign where he had a team-high 10.5 sacks, which made him the fifth player in team history to record at least 10 sacks in three different seasons.
His 40.5 sacks through his first four years are the third-most by a player over that stretch in Raiders’ history and fifth-most all-time. He has become a franchise cornerstone player that many teams around the league would look to work out a long-term contract to keep him in place for the long haul. This is why the Chicago Bears and many other teams jumped at the opportunity to acquire Mack and ink him to that massive, record-breaking six-year, $141 extension shortly after landing him.
He quickly proved his worth in his first action with the Bears in the first half against the Packers with a sack, forced fumble, a fumble recovery, and an interception returned for a touchdown. It may be a move that the Raiders may regret making for the next decade as Mack has many highly productive seasons ahead of him where he further establishes himself as a potential Hall of Fame career.
