Is retired NFL wide receiver Jerry Rice flirting with the idea of making a return to pro football action? The Hall of Famer wideout, whom many consider as the greatest to ever play the game, was a recent guest on the podcast of ESPN’s Adam Schefter and had some interesting things to say that probably left a lot of the show's listeners breathing heavily.

Jerry Rice has long retired from football, and though his interview with Schefter had a humorous tone, one could tell that the 55-year-old NFL legend still has a burning desire to lace up his cleats and compete at a professional level.
Rice spent the majority of his career playing for the San Francisco 49ers from 1985-2000 before concluding his illustrious NFL campaign in 2004 with the Seattle Seahawks. In between those stints, he suited up for three seasons with the Oakland Raiders, including the one year he played under head coach Jon Gruden in 2001. Rice won three Super Bowl titles and is part of both the NFL's 1980s and 1990s All-Decade Teams.
The Raiders’ offense was not particularly impressive in 2017. They ranked just 23rd in points per game and only had a middling total of 23 receiving touchdowns. Oakland’s wide receiver corps could also use some depth, as it was a tight end in Jared Cook who led the team in receiving yards in the regular season.
In that case, maybe someone like Rice who owns the all-time records in receiving touchdowns (197) and receiving yards (22,895) could give Oakland’s offense a shot in the arm.
