After his head coach, Antonio Pierce, suggested that he might need to make some “business decisions” heading into Week 4 after an ugly effort against the then-winless Carolina Panthers, it looks like the Las Vegas Raiders had their hands tipped when it comes to Davante Adams as, according to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, the star wide receiver is considered week-to-week with a troubling injury.
“Davante Adams pulled up lame in the closing minutes of the Las Vegas Raiders' practice Thursday, grabbing his hamstring with an injury that is expected to sideline the star wide receiver on a week-to-week basis, league sources told ESPN,” Schefter wrote.
Now granted, it isn't necessarily news news that Adams will be out for at least this weekend, as he did come up injured on Thursday, but even so, when asked about replacing the former Packers receiver on Friday during his media availability, Pierce noted that he hoped his team could come together in the aggregate, with players like Jakobi Meyers having to play to their strengths in his place.
“Collectively, nobody needs to be Davante Adams. I don't need another Davante. There's only one, right? I just need the best version of Jakobi Meyers,” Pierce told reporters on Friday.
“We'll see what happens come Sunday, but we really feel [positive] giving these guys the last 12 hours and now today, tomorrow to get ready for the game.”
Will it be easy to replace a true WR1 like Adams in Week 4, even against a team like the Cleveland Browns, who have been very up-and-down so far this season? No, the Raiders have to have lost some chutzpah heading into Week 4 and are now likely heavy underdogs against the Browns. Still, when has that ever stopped the team from winning in the past? At this point, predicting what the Raiders will do any week is a fool's errand, as they will defeat the Baltimore Ravens one week and then lose to the Panthers the next.
