The Oakland Raiders have received scathing criticism for trading away defensive end Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears. However, it appears defensive coordinator Paul Guenther is supportive of the decision.

Although Guenther did acknowledge his skepticism with trading a player of Mack's caliber, he says it was indicative of the direction the Raiders are going in, according to Michale Gehlken of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

“He’s a fantastic player, obviously. We all know that. … We’re trying to build this organization the right way.” Supports team’s decision to do what’s in its best interest.

Guenther's comments should come as no surprise. As the team's new defensive coordinator under head coach Jon Gruden, the last thing he is going to do is criticize any personnel moves. However, it is clear that he intends to leave such decisions to the powers that be.

Unfortunately, it is difficult to gauge the ‘right way' Guenther is referring to. The Raiders managed to get some quality assets in return which includes a couple of future first-round picks and some cap space. In doing so, they have now put even more pressure on their front office to make sure they make the most out of their money and picks. That said, it is impossible to assume that are capable of doing so.

Oakland already had arguably the best pass-rusher in the league at a time when offenses are throwing the ball more than ever. He had done everything he can to garner such a lucrative contract after three trips to the Pro Bowl, two First-Team All-Pro selections, and a Defensive Player of the Year award in just his first four seasons. Even if they do manage to ease the pain with some quality talent in the future, the Raiders will have likely packed their bags for Las Vegas by then.
