The Cincinnati Bengals parted ways with longtime linebacker Vontaze Burfict last month, opening the door for the Oakland Raiders to jump in and sign him with the hope that he will bring something to their defense.

Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is confident that Burfict will have a positive impact, saying that he feels the injury-prone linebacker is ready to lead Oakland's defensive unit.

“I'll say this,” Carr said during a live chat session on YouTube. “On offense and defense, all we've done is add good players and good people, from the outside looking in. Nobody honestly really knows what's going on, if I'm keeping it real. When you see the people we are signing and the people we are bringing in, we are building a team to win now. We are ready to go. We are so hungry, we are so on fire to win. Vontaze (Burfict), he's amazing. I've known him for a while. I've talked to him multiple times, not just when he signed, but in the last couple days, I've been talking to him. He's an amazing man. He's ready to hit somebody, I know that. He's ready to hit somebody, and he's ready to lead our defense. I think that him being with (Paul) Guenther, which Guenther's amazing, he's a genius. Him being around Guenther before, they are going to be awesome.”

Widely considered one of the dirtiest players in the league, Burfict does not exactly have a great reputation around the NFL in spite of his immense talent.

The 28-year-old has not played a full 16-game season since 2013 due to injuries and suspensions.

This past season, Burfict appeared in seven contests and finished with 33 tackles.
