The Oakland Raiders are not a very desirable front office to work for at the moment. Just ask former New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese, who turned down an opportunity to interview for the Raiders' GM job, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Reese was fired from his post as Giants general manager after last season.
He was New York's GM from 2007 through 2017 and also served as the team's director of player personnel from 2004 through 2007. While he did not exactly have a great exit, Reese was instrumental in building the Giants' two Super Bowl-winning teams in 2007-08 and 2011-12, so he does have a good track record of spotting talent.
Of course, it's not just about the ineptitude of the Raiders that is making Oakland's GM job less attractive; it's also the fact that head coach Jon Gruden will likely be calling a lot of the shots.
Article Continues BelowThe Raiders fired general manager Reggie McKenzie earlier in the month, as Oakland is in the midst of a horrific 3-11 campaign. Many feel that Gruden scapegoated McKenzie, as he is the one making most of the decisions for the Raiders.
For example, it was Gruden who decided to trade Khalil Mack to the Chicago Bears before the season started.
Now, that deal may pan out down the road, as the Raiders got two first-round picks out of it, but Gruden traded away a young stud at linebacker who just helped the Bears clinch the NFC North title.
Oakland has made the playoffs just once since 2003.
