It's not going to be anything but teaching. It's going to be letting our players wrap their arms around a system of offense, a system of defense, a system of special teams.”
This new approach to training camp will be an effort to help the players quickly soaking in and understand the new schematic plans for each aspect of the game. Gruden is coming into a situation where he is implementing an entirely new system that will be a new experience for the entire team.
It will also allow him to get a feel for what type of team he has that could best fit the game plan in each part of the roster. This may be the best approach he can take in this situation given that he hasn't held a minicamp as a head coach in a decade that should give him a feel for what he should expect.
There is still much of the offseason still left ahead that will provide Gruden a chance to truly implement his plan in each regard of the game to a greater degree the further along in the summer it gets. This is just the first step to what could be a thorough process for the Raiders to develop an identity under their new head coach.
