Flores guided the Oakland Raiders to a victory in Super Bowl XV over the Philadelphia Eagles. He then led the Los Angeles Raiders to a blowout triumph over the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII. He is the only Raiders coach to win multiple Super Bowls. His inclusion is a mountaintop moment for minority coaches in the National Football League at a time when minorities are having a hard time getting head coaching jobs.
Flores is an icon not only in the history books of the Raiders franchise but in the vast world of sports as well. For his part, the 86-year-old shared what this ultimate honor means to him on apersonal level:

“People start talking to you about it, and you think, wow, you know, I’ve had a pretty good life, a pretty good NFL life. Obviously, I’ve done some things I’m very proud of. And to be able to share the journey with my family, and friends has been great.”
We could not agree more with the legend's statement here.
Flores' first Super Bowl title with the Raiders in the 1980 season marked the first time any wild card team won the Super Bowl. Those Raiders won the AFC Wild Card Game over the Houston Oilers. They went on the road to beat the Cleveland Browns in the divisional playoffs and the San Diego Chargers in the AFC Championship Game. They beat the Eagles on Jan. 25, 1981, to give the Raiders their second Super Bowl. The franchise's first came four years earlier in Super Bowl XI.
Our heartfelt congratulations to Tom Flores and his family for this undeniably much-deserved distinction.
